Organizations

Organizations often approach us for short or long-term assistance with programs and strategies that advance their mission, inspire their members, and develop resources. Over the years we have provided professional development to all 17 cities in After-School for All-Stars, Communities in Schools, generationON, Americorps, the San Antonio Spurs Foundation, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the National Youth Leadership Council.

Here are three additional examples.

For seven years, Cathryn Berger Kaye assisted the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in reframing key elements of the CAS Programme (Creativity, Activity, Service), a core part of its Diplomma Program. The IBO adopted her model of The Five Stages of Service Learning as the Five Stages of CAS, along with her approach to reflection. As one of the key authors of the most recent CAS Guide, Cathryn wrote and assembled the Teacher Support Materials for the CAS Guide.

In addition, Cathryn has contributed to the IBO’s Career-Related Programme and to its Personal and Professional Course, as well as online sessions on service learning. She delivered the keynote address at the IBO Conference for the African, European, and Middle East region held in Rome, Italy, on Taking Action as a Way to Knowing, and has presented at the IBO Conference of the Americas for five years. She has led preconference and workshop sessions in New Orleans, Cancun, Liverpool, Toronto, and more.

In 2009, a phone call with Philippe Cousteau and the team at EarthEcho International sparked a partnership that continues today, based on a mutual desire to engage youth in protecting the health of our planet. Siblings Phillipe and Alexandra Cousteau founded EarthEcho in 2005 to honor their father, Philippe Cousteau Sr., son of legendary Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Today, Earth Echo’s free resources and programs in support of youth leadership for environmental action reach more than 2 million people in 146 countries.

As part of this collaboration, Cathryn Berger Kaye with Philippe Cousteau and EarthEcho International produced the-award winning Going Blue and Make a Splash!. She also wrote nine action guides to engage youth in topics from rethinking waste to stormwater action. She has led youth workshops to promote young people as Citizen Journalists, becoming their community’s eyes and ears on environmental issues in their own backyard.

The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, Florida engaged CBK Associates over two years to understand how service learning can be of value in day and religious school programming. During the pandemic, Cathryn Berger Kaye offered the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County virtual webinars for educators and then led three cohorts of middle and high school youth through online interactive experiences to engage them in constructing and carrying out meaningful service in their communities.

Working with Cathy these last 6 months has been very grounding in an uncertain time. Her professionalism and soothing personality had us all feel at ease and understood. She gave our students space to be authentic and honest in an environment that was safe and judgement free. Her enthusiasm for what she does shows through her work and those who have been impacted by her.”
